The Elberfelder Bible is an important German Bible translation, first published in 1855 (New Testament) and 1871 (Old Testament). While it never achieved the same level of popularity as the Luther Bible, it has gained many fans over time due to its literal translation and faithfulness to the text. The literalness of the translation takes precedence over linguistic beauty, making it a model for many other translations.
